Gerri Berendzen

Lecturer at William Allen White School of Journalism and Mass Communications

Gerri Berendzen has worked as a copy editor for more than 35 years and teaches editing, writing, information management and digital media at the University of Kansas School of Journalism and Mass Communication. She has been focused on fact checking research and teaching editing since 2014, after almost three decades editing at newspapers in the Midwest. Following a stint as the copy desk chief and editorial production coordinator at the Herald-Whig in Quincy, Illinois, she became a Knight Foundation visiting professor at the University of Missouri School of Journalism before moving on to KU. In addition to teaching, she does freelance editing for textbooks, proposals and other projects. She is a lifetime member of ACES: The Society for Editing and served on the organization’s Executive Committee from 2006 to 2018.
