Born in Palacios de Sanabria (Zamora), Lucía Mendez holds a degree in Information Sciences from the Complutense University of Madrid. She took her first steps as a journalist in the local press, El Correo de Zamora and El Norte de Castilla. Later in radio, Cadena Ser, Madrid, Bilbao and then in Zamora. In 1987, she joined Diario 16, and she participated in the foundation of the newspaper EL MUNDO with Pedro J. Ramírez two years later. Mendez has worked there for the last 32 years, first as parliamentary correspondent and then as editor-in-chief of Opinion. She briefly stepped away to work as Secretary of State for Communication of the Presidency of the Government. Mendez is currently editor-in-chief of EL MUNDO and columnist. She participates in several radio and television talk shows: Hora 25 on Ser, La Hora de La 1, Al Rojo Vivo, and Más Vale Tarde, on La Sexta. She has been awarded the Josefina Carabias Award of the Congress of Deputies in its first edition, 8-M Community of Madrid Award, and Puro Cora Journalism Award from the Progreso de Lugo group.
