Take your editing to the next level and become a valuable writing coach.

This four-week editing seminar — which you can take on its own or as part of the advanced certificate — will help you hone your skills and edit strategically, going beyond editing for style, grammar and punctuation. It includes live online sessions, one-on-one coaching, homework and group discussion. When you’re done, you will have expertise in substantive editing and know how to use critical thinking skills across multiple platforms and disciplines.

If you select the advanced editing certificate, you will have access to both the online group seminar and the Poynter ACES course pack. The course pack includes four webinars, three self-directed courses and seven assessments. When you’re done with the certificate, you will be able to isolate the essential elements of a story when cutting or curating content for different platforms and different audiences.

Members of ACES can enroll in both the online group seminar and the certificate at discounted rates. Log in to your ACES portal to receive your coupon code and enter it during checkout.

Each lesson is one hour, and you can expect to spend an additional two to three hours per week exploring the course content, completing assignments, reviewing feedback and discussing in the class Slack.

Mark your calendars for these live sessions:

  • Week 1: Tuesday, Nov. 2 at 3 p.m. Eastern
  • Week 2: Tuesday, Nov. 9 at 3 p.m. Eastern
  • Week 3: Tuesday, Nov. 16 at 3 p.m. Eastern
  • Week 4: Tuesday, Nov. 23 at 3 p.m. Eastern

All live sessions will be recorded and available for replay. However, submitting homework assignments is required to successfully complete the course.

If you choose the full certificate, you will also have access to the Poynter ACES course pack. You can begin the self-directed course content as soon as you enroll, but you must participate in the live online group seminar to receive the certificate. You will have one year to complete all the self-directed course material.
