In a 24/7 news cycle, how do you build the skills to report, write and edit stories that connect with your audience? And how can editors and reporters collaborate more effectively?
Throughout six days of training and personalized coaching spread over three weeks, our team of award-winning journalists and educators will show you how digital approaches and narrative writing can transform your work, whether it’s a quick-turn story or a major project. This unique program will boost the skills of both reporters and editors who seek greater impact and relevance in digital newsrooms.
You’ll have time in between training sessions to reflect and practice what you learned back on the job. You’ll have the opportunity to talk one-on-one with a Poynter Summit faculty member about what’s going on in your career after more than two years of living through a pandemic and ongoing racial reckoning. And you’ll connect with fellow journalists around the country who will support your personal and professional growth moving forward.
At the end of this high-impact training, you’ll return to work with a personal action plan to put what you’ve learned into practice. You’ll also feel revitalized and prepared to tackle challenges in the newsroom.
Here’s what a few of our past participants had to say about their experience:
Attending Poynter allowed me to take a much-needed step back from the daily news grind and refocus on what made me love this job in the first place. I was challenged to examine my own writing and reporting in ways I’d never thought to before.
— Stephanie Ip, Digital Reporter, The Vancouver Sun and Province
I use what I learned during the Summit in my reporting and writing every day … I’ve also been able to keep connecting to like-minded journalists from the Summit since it ended, which has been invaluable.
— Michelle R. Smith, Correspondent, Associated Press
This Summit fundamentally changed the way I approach my work. In one week, I learned how to think more critically and constructively about my work, both as a reporter and as an editor.
— Courtney Kueppers, Digital Editor, Public Broadcasting Atlanta
