Chris Kozlowski

Senior Multimedia Designer

Group:

Chris Kozlowski is the senior multimedia designer at the Poynter Institute.

Kozlowski was born in Detroit, Michigan. He attended Eastern Michigan University and earned a written communication degree in 1986. He also studied photojournalism at the Center for Creative Studies.

While working as a reporter at a weekly newspaper in suburban Detroit, Chris purchased his first Apple Macintosh computer so he could create informational graphics to accompany his planning commission stories. He also started designing the newspaper’s feature pages — that was the beginning of his passion for visual storytelling.

He went on to work as a design leader at various daily newspapers throughout the country, including: Fort Wayne News-Sentinel, Lansing State Journal, North Hills News Record, The Detroit News, Boston Globe, The Arizona Republic and Tampa Bay Times. He designed pages for every section of the newspaper and was particularly driven by news and sports page design.

Throughout his career, he received more than 60 awards from the Society for News Design.

Kozlowski also started his own professional photography business in 2016. Since then, he’s photographed 250 weddings. Chris is a father of three and a lifelong Detroit Tigers fan residing in St. Petersburg, Florida — a short drive away from the Tigers’ spring training facility.
